My Local Files

The My Local Files view lists files that have been downloaded from the Content Server to your local system. Files are downloaded to your local system when you:

Downloading files to your local system enables you to work on them even while you are disconnected from the network. ContentCenter keeps track of the changes you make so that you know exactly which local files are modified. After you finish working on local files, you must upload them to the Content Server.

To learn about the part of ContentCenter that manages the process of downloading, uploading, and importing files, see About the Local Files Manager.

To install and set up the Local Files Manager the first time you perform an action that requires it, see First Time Use.

To configure ContentCenter so you can edit files directly on the server, open files in an application that you choose, or set other options, see Configuring Local Files Manager Settings.

The My Local Files view contains the following columns:

Columns are sortable and their width is adjustable. Click a column to sort it; click and hold on a column separator and slide it to adjust width.
To… Do This…

Upload files from you local system to the Content Server

Select the files you want to upload — hold down the Shift key to select multiple consecutive files; hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple non-consecutive files — and click Upload.

Note: If Always ask whether or not to remove them is selected in the Settings > General tab, a dialog box asks whether you want to remove the uploaded files from your local system, keep them, or cancel the operation.

Preview a file

Select the file you want and click Preview.

The file is automatically uploaded to ContentCenter and displayed in a new browser window or its associated application.

Note: You do not enter VisualPreview mode when previewing files from the Local Files Manager. The file is simply displayed without access to VisualPreview functionality.

Note: If you experience problems previewing files from the Local Files Manager, such as the displayed file does not contain your changes, ask your administrator to examine the cache settings for IIS (Internet Information Server).

Select the files you want to remove and click Remove.

Note: Corresponding files on the Content Server are not removed.

Can I add files that are not in the ContentCenter system to the location where ContentCenter places downloaded files and upload them?

No. Only files that are managed within ContentCenter in the My Local Files view. To get content into ContentCenter, import it (see Importing Content From Your Local System).

Can I edit files directly on the Content Server without having to download them?

Yes, but this is not advised if you need to work on files while disconnected from the network.

See Configuring Local Files Manager Settings for details on how change your settings so you can edit files directly on the server.

Where are my files located when ContentCenter downloads them?

The default location on Windows is:

C:\IWTemp\server_name\cache\store_name\branch_name\area_name\path_to_file\

You can specify a different location. See Configuring Local Files Manager Settings for details.
